Monitoring Training Load in Indian Male Swimmers
نویسندگان
چکیده
The present study was initiated to monitor the training load with the magnitude of impact on the hormone concentrations such as testosterone, cortisol and T/C (Testosterone/Cortisol) ratio during the three phases of training (i.e. preparatory, pre-competitive, and competitive phases) in Indian male swimmers preparing for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Blood samples were collected at the end of each training phase and hormone concentration was determined by ELISA. Our results reveal that testosterone concentration and the T/C ratio significantly decreased and the cortisol concentration increased in the subsequent periodized cycle. Change in hormone concentration was associated with the intensity and duration of individual exercise sessions. The greatest performance enhancement was realized with the lowest plasma cortisol, highest testosterone, and a high T/C ratio. Monitoring of these hormones also have implications for identifying and preventing overreaching in swimmers.

Effect of Training on Selected Biochemical Variables of Elite Male Swimmers
The aim of the present study was to find out the effect of training on biochemical variables of elite male swimmers. A total of 60 Indian elite male swimmers (age: 17.33 ± 1.47 yrs; height: 173.08 ± 5.80 cm; body mass: 68.11 ± 5.02 kg) who regularly participate in competitive swimming volunteered for this study. A well-designed training program for the swimmers was employed for 12 weeks. The tr...
متن کاملPsychological monitoring of overtraining and staleness.
It is widely agreed that overtraining should be employed in order to achieve peak performance but it is also recognised that overtraining can actually produce decrements in performance. The challenge appears to be one of monitoring stress indicators in the athlete in order to titrate the training stimulus and prevent the onset of staleness. The present paper summarises a ten-year research effor...
متن کاملTHE EFFECT OF AN ENDURANCE SWIMMING SESSION ON CLARA CELL PROTEIN AND CRP CONCENTRATIONS IN ELITE AND RECREATIONAL ENDURANCE MALE SWIMMERS
Background & Aims: The presence of epithelial cells in the blood is a symptom of cellular damage. Clara's cell proteins are the epithelial cells of the lungs and the respiratory tract, also, the existence of cytokines such as reactive protein C is a sign of inflammation. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of one session of endurance swimming activity on the serum con...
متن کاملThe Effect of a 6-Week Core Stability Training Program on the Stroke Index and Front Crawl Record of Male Swimmers
Objective For optimal performance of swimmers, it is necessary to determine a level for the functional interaction of upper and lower limbs. This level, created by more than 20 pairs of muscles, is the core of the body. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of six weeks of core stability exercise on the stroke index and front crawl record of male swimmers. Methods In this quasi-...
متن کاملCompetitive Performance, Training Load and Physiological Responses During Tapering in Young Swimmers
The study examined the changes of training load and physiological parameters in relation to competitive performance during a period leading to a national championship. The training content of twelve swimmers (age: 14.2±1.3 yrs) was recorded four weeks before the national championship (two weeks of normal training and two weeks of the taper). The training load was calculated: i) by the swimmer's...
